White Paper: Climate Change, an Opportunity to Build Green DCs in Africa?
As part of its partnership with the ADCA (Africa Data Centres Association), launched in January 2024, the Lab-by-APL has published a white paper entitled ‘Climate Change, an Opportunity to Build Green DCs in Africa?’.
Development and promotion of data centers in Africa
The Africa Data Centres Association (ADCA) is a trade organization bringing together the different players in the data center sector with the aim of promoting the sector, supporting its growth, and acting as a catalyst for the development of digital technology in Africa.
The ADCA helps its members to share their knowledge and experience in order to establish and improve best practices. It spreads the word about the excellence of African data centers abroad, encouraging international players to come to Africa.
The organization is built on a set of strong values in terms of ethics, education, environmental responsibility, and governance processes.
APL in partnership with the ADCA to promote sustainable data centers
In January 2024, APL entered into a partnership with the ADCA to share its expertise and good practices for reducing the environmental impact of data center infrastructure, from its design to its operation.
This included a commitment by APL to publish a series of articles describing the impact of the climate on data centers in Africa, offering solutions for adapting to the change, and promoting green data centers on the continent.
The first of these is on the theme: ‘Climate Change, an Opportunity to Build Green DCs in Africa’ It covers the following topics:
- A reminder about the African climate and its diversity
- The impact of climate change on African infrastructure, especially data centers, and the urgent need to adapt
- Renewable energy sources as a solution for creating resilient data centers
