APL is building the first data center in Moselle with very high energy performance and service continuity levels
APL has designed and is building a turnkey data center for Babylone, hosted in a new 2,700m² building on the outskirts of Metz. The project combines eco-design (photovoltaic electricity generation, cooling with purified outside air, server heat recovery system, etc.) and very high service continuity and security requirements (Tier III certification, 99.982% availability).
Montrouge, 18 October 2018 – APL, the data center expert, announces that Abalone Group, which specializes in temporary work, recruitment and training, has entrusted it, via Babylone, with the turnkey design and build of the first co-location and IT hosting data center in Moselle, as part of the diversification of its activities under the brand Advanced Mediomatrix. Located in Peltre (Mercy Development Zone), near Metz, this data center will be hosted in a 2,700m² building, which also houses commercial space (offices, training rooms and start-up space). APL has designed the entire data center technical solution so that it provides high levels of energy performance, service continuity and security. The first stone of this data center is being laid today in the aim of it being operational in the last quarter of 2019, with the building work overseen by APL teams.
A data center offering very high service continuity and security levels
As part of the diversification of its activities, Abalone Group, a company specializing in temporary work, recruitment and training, has decided to invest in the new generation data center market, under the brand Advanced Mediomatrix. This project, which is supported by the development agency Moselle Attractivité, aims to meet the co-location and local IT hosting service needs of companies and public bodies in the Moselle region: a brand new data center will be built in the outskirts of Metz which will be able to house 312 racks spread across three 200m² computer rooms, thanks to its modular design and IT electrical power of up to 1.6MW. The data center was designed by APL to offer very high service continuity and security levels: 99.982% availability, Tier III architecture that can be upgraded to Tier IV, multi-operator fiber optic connectivity, 24/7 surveillance, etc.
A very high environmental quality data center
The data center computer rooms will have a free cooling direct system: 90% of the time they will be cooled with purified outside air. The building will be equipped with a rain water recovery system, six generators, photovoltaic panels to generate part of the electricity need for its operation, recycled buffer batteries and a system to recycle the heat dissipated by the IT equipment to heat the commercial spaces and running water. This equipment, which is intended to reach a very high energy performance level (target PUE below 1.3) and environmental performance level, will be installed on the roof of the building as well as on the 9,377m² site land.
APL: turnkey data center design and build
For this project, APL is supporting Babylone from end to end, from upstream strategic planning to the data center technical design, management of general contracting work, and delivery, scheduled in the last quarter of 2019. Advanced Mediomatrix will start the ISO 27001, 50001, 14001 and 9001 certification process, giving its infrastructure all the quality guarantees needed to meet the highest hosting requirements.
